Focus on the Journey not the Destination

Imagine this. You’ve been grinding towards a goal for months now, putting in countless hours of work—not even noticing the time flowing by. You can smell the success. Then the moment finally arrives… and just like that, it’s over. You achieved your goal, but the dopamine fades and your left with this uncomfortable emptiness, like somethings still missing.

Most of us are chasing external wins to feel something internal — forgetting that joy, peace, and fulfillment don't come from results. You don't need to wait for something, like hitting a goal, to give you permission to experience God's goodness and joy. You just need to walk with Him.

Here’s 3 reasons why your path matters more than your destination.

1. Those who only chase results, often skip the character building phase.

For the longest time I wanted to hit 225, and I finally did after literally 20 failed attempts. After hitting it, oddly enough I wished I could go back and experience trying to bench it for the first time again.

Real satisfaction doesn’t come from hitting a goal, it comes from growth — knowing you’re making progress daily, even if it’s not perfect. If you're only focused on outcomes, you're missing the deeper transformation as a whole.

By chasing results, you limit yourself to what you think you're capable of. You don't give God the opportunity to show you what He's capable of through you.

2. God is shaping you, be patient and wait on His sovereign timing.

God has taken many great men (David, Moses, Abraham) through uncertain, long, and sometimes painful journeys, not to punish them but to prepare them for His plan. Though it may not feel like it at times, He does the same for us all. We can rest assured in His sovereign timing, that all things will work for good in His hands.

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4

3. Identity isn’t built when you reach your destination, it’s built in the grind.

Compounding talents and skill will help you accomplish more goals than goal setting ever will. You don't come who you're meant to be at the finish line — you become it in the reps, the setbacks, and the daily faithfulness. Stop chasing perfection, just focus on getting 1% better every day.

Small, consistent effort > big, inconsistent spurts.

The destination will come. But the journey is where God will build your faith, your drive, your character. Don't miss the growth that the journey He's set you on will give.
